Tafsir Ibn Kathir
Explaining the Day of Decision and what occurs during it
Allah says
إِنَّ يَوْمَ الْفَصْلِ كَانَ مِيقَاتًا ﴿١٧﴾
Verily, the Day of Decision is a fixed time,
Allah says about the Day of Decision -- and it is the Day of Judgement -- that it is at a fixed time, with a set appointment. Its time cannot be added to or decreased. No one knows its exact time except Allah. This is as Allah says,
وَمَا نُؤَخِّرُهُ إِلاَّ لاًّجَلٍ مَّعْدُودٍ
And We delay it only for a term fixed. (11:104)
تفسير ابن كثير
يخبر تعالى عن يوم الفصل وهو يوم القيامة أنه مؤقت بأجل معدود لا يزاد عليه ولا ينقص منه ولا يعلم وقته على التعيين إلا الله عز وجل كما قال تعالى " وما نؤخره إلا لأجل معدود " .
تفسير الجلالين
" إن يوم الفصل " بين الخلائق " كان ميقاتا " وقتا للثواب والعقاب
تفسير القرطبي
أي وقتا ومجمعا وميعادا للأولين والآخرين , لما وعد الله من الجزاء والثواب . وسمي يوم الفصل لأن الله تعالى يفصل فيه بين خلقه .
