وَجَعَلْنَا اللَّيْلَ لِبَاساً

Tafsir Ibn Kathir
وَجَعَلْنَا اللَّيْلَ لِبَاسًا ﴿١٠﴾
And We have made the night as a covering,
meaning, its shade and darkness covers the people.
This is as Allah says,
وَالَّيْلِ إِذَا يَغْشَـهَا
By the night as it conceals it. (91:4)
Qatadah commented; وَجَعَلْنَا اللَّيْلَ لِبَاسًا ً meaning, a tranquil residence.
تفسير ابن كثير
أي يغشى الناس ظلامه وسواده كما قال " والليل إذا يغشاها " وقال الشاعر : فلما لبسن الليل أو حين نصبت له من حذا آذانها وهو جانح . وقال قتادة في قوله تعالى " وجعلنا الليل لباسا " أي سكنا .
تفسير الجلالين
" وجعلنا الليل لباسا " ساترا بسواده
تفسير القرطبي
أي تلبسكم ظلمته وتغشاكم ; قاله الطبري . وقال ابن جبير والسدي : أي سكنا لكم .
