وَالْمُؤْتَفِكَةَ أَهْوَى

Tafsir Ibn Kathir
وَالْمُؤْتَفِكَةَ أَهْوَى ﴿٥٣﴾
And He destroyed the overthrown cities.
meaning, the cities (of Sodom and Gomorrah) to which Prophet Lut was sent. Allah turned their cities upside down over them and sent on them stones of Sijjil.
Allah's statement that whatever has covered it, has covered it, is like the case with the stones of Sijjil that He sent on them,
وَأَمْطَرْنَا عَلَيْهِم مَّطَراً فَسَآءَ مَطَرُ الْمُنذَرِينَ
And We rained on them a rain (of torment). And how evil was the rain of those who had been warned! (26:173)
تفسير ابن كثير
يعني مدائن قوم لوط قلبها عليهم فجعل عاليها سافلها وأمطر عليهم حجارة من سجيل منضود .

"والمؤتفكة" وهي قرى قوم لوط "أهوى" أسقطها بعد رفعها إلى السماء مقلوبة إلى الأرض بأمره جبريل بذلك
تفسير القرطبي
يعني مدائن قوم لوط عليه السلام ائتفكت بهم , أي انقلبت وصار عاليها سافلها . يقال : أفكته أي قلبته وصرفته . " أهوى " أي خسف بهم بعد رفعها إلى السماء ; رفعها جبريل ثم أهوى بها إلى الأرض . وقال المبرد : جعلها تهوي . ويقال : هوى بالفتح يهوي هويا أي سقط و " أهوى " أي أسقط .

«وَالْمُؤْتَفِكَةَ» مفعول به مقدم «أَهْوى » ماض فاعله مستتر والجملة معطوفة على ما قبلها.
