فَأَرَادُوا بِهِ كَيْداً فَجَعَلْنَاهُمُ الْأَسْفَلِينَ
Faaradoo bihi kaydan fajaAAalnahumu alasfaleena

(This failing), they then sought a stratagem against him, but We made them the ones most humiliated!

Tafsir Ibn Kathir
Allah says:
فَأَرَادُوا بِهِ كَيْدًا فَجَعَلْنَاهُمُ الْأَسْفَلِينَ ﴿٩٨﴾
So, they plotted a plot against him, but We made them the lowest.
تفسير ابن كثير
" فقالوا ابنوا له بنيانا فألقوه في الجحيم " وكان من أمرهم ما تقدم بيانه في سورة الأنبياء عليهم الصلاة والسلام ونجاه الله من النار وأظهره عليهم وأعلى حجته ونصرها ولهذا قال تعالى " وأرادوا به كيدا فجعلناهم الأسفلين " .
تفسير الجلالين
"فأرادوا به كيدا" بإلقائه في النار لتهلكه "فجعلناهم الأسفلين" المقهورين فخرج من النار سالما
تفسير القرطبي
أي بإبراهيم . والكيد المكر ; أي احتالوا لإهلاكه .
