Occasion of revelation
(By the heaven and the Morning Star; ah, what will tell thee what the Morning Star is! The piercing Star!) [86:1-3]. This was revealed about Abu Talib. He once went to visit the Prophet, Allah bless him and give him peace, and the latter offered him bread and milk. As Abu Talib was sitting and eating, a meteor fell, filling
everything with fire. Abu Talib was scared. He asked: ﾓWhat on earth can this be?ﾔ The Prophet, Allah bless him and give him peace, said: ﾓThis is a meteor that was thrown and it is one of the signs of Allahﾔ. Abu Talib was amazed, and so Allah, exalted is He, revealed these verses.
Tafsir Ibn Kathir
Then He says,
وَمَا أَدْرَاكَ مَا الطَّارِقُ ﴿٢﴾
And what will make you to know what At-Tariq is?
Then He explains it by His saying,
تفسير ابن كثير
قال قتادة وغيره إنما سمي النجم طارقا لأنه إنما يرى بالليل ويختفي بالنهار ويؤيده ما جاء في الحديث الصحيح نهى أن يطرق الرجل أهله طروقا أي يأتيهم فجأة بالليل وفي الحديث الآخر المشتمل على الدعاء " إلا طارقا يطرق بخير يا رحمن " .

" وما أدراك " أعلمك " ما الطارق " مبتدأ وخبر في محل المفعول الثاني لأدرى وما بعد ما الأولى خبرها وفيه تعظيم لشأن الطارق المفسر بما بعده هو
تفسير القرطبي
تفخيما لشأن هذا المقسم به . وقال سفيان : كل ما في القرآن " وما أدراك " ؟ فقد أخبره به . وكل شيء قال فيه " وما يدريك " : لم يخبره به .
إعراب — grammatical analysis
«وَما» الواو حرف عطف «ما» اسم استفهام مبتدأ «أَدْراكَ» ماض ومفعوله والفاعل مستتر والجملة الفعلية خبر المبتدأ وجملة ما أدراك .. معطوفة على ما قبلها «مَا الطَّارِقُ» مبتدأ وخبره والجملة سدت مسد مفعول أدراك الثاني.
