Tafsir Ibn Kathir
أَأَنتُمْ أَنشَأْتُمْ شَجَرَتَهَا أَمْ نَحْنُ الْمُنشِؤُونَ ﴿٧٢﴾
Is it you who made the tree thereof to grow, or are We the Grower?
meaning, `rather We have made kindling fire possible.'
The Arabs had two kinds of trees called Al-Markh and Al-`Afar (that they used to ignite a fire). When they would rub a green branch from each of these two trees against each other, sparkles of fire would emit from them.
تفسير ابن كثير
" أأنتم أنشأتم شجرتها أم نحن المنشئون " أي بل نحن الذين جعلناها مودعة في موضعها وللعرب شجرتان " إحداهما " المرخ " والأخرى " العفار " إذا أخذ منهما غصنان أخضران فحك أحدهما بالآخر تناثر من بينهما شرر النار .

"أأنتم أنشأتم شجرتها" كالمرخ والعفار والكلخ
تفسير القرطبي
يعني التي تكون منها الزناد وهي المرخ والعفار , ومنه قولهم : في كل شجر نار , واستمجد المرخ والعفار , أي استكثر منها , كأنهما أخذا من النار ما هو حسبهما . ويقال : لأنهما يسرعان الوري . يقال : أوريت النار إذا قدحتها . وورى الزند يري إذا انقدح منه النار . وفيه لغة أخرى : ووري الزند يري بالكسر فيهما .
