وَقَالُوا اتَّخَذَ الرَّحْمَنُ وَلَداً سُبْحَانَهُ بَلْ عِبَادٌ مُّكْرَمُونَ
Waqaloo ittakhatha alrrahmanu waladan subhanahu bal AAibadun mukramoona

And they say: "(Allah) Most Gracious has begotten offspring." Glory to Him! they are (but) servants raised to honour.

Tafsir Ibn Kathir
The Refutation of Those Who claim that the Angels are the Daughters of Allah; description of their Deeds and Status
Allah says:
وَقَالُوا اتَّخَذَ الرَّحْمَنُ وَلَدًا ...
And they say: "The Most Gracious has begotten children.''
Here Allah refutes those who claim that He has offspring among the angels -- exalted and sanctified be He. Some of the Arabs believed that the angels were the daughters of Allah, but Allah says:
... سُبْحَانَهُ بَلْ عِبَادٌ مُّكْرَمُونَ ﴿٢٦﴾
Glory to Him! They are but honored servants.
meaning, the angels are servants of Allah who are honored by Him and who hold high positions of noble status. They obey Him to the utmost in all their words and deeds.

يقول تعالى رادا على من زعم أن له - تعالى وتقدس - ولدا من الملائكة كمن قال ذلك من العرب إن الملائكة بنات الله فقال " سبحانه بل عباد مكرمون " أي الملائكة عباد الله مكرمون عنده في منازل عالية ومقامات سامية وهم له في غاية الطاعة قولا وفعلا .

"وقالوا اتخذ الرحمن ولدا" من الملائكة "سبحانه بل" هم "عباد مكرمون" عنده والعبودية تنافي الولادة

نزلت في خزاعة حيث قالوا : الملائكة بنات الله , وكانوا يعبدونهم طمعا في شفاعتهم لهم . وروى معمر عن قتادة قال قالت اليهود - قال معمر في روايته - أو طوائف من الناس : خاتن إلى الجن والملائكة من الجن , فقال الله عز وجل : " سبحانه " تنزيها له .
