اشْتَرَوْاْ بِآيَاتِ اللّهِ ثَمَناً قَلِيلاً فَصَدُّواْ عَن سَبِيلِهِ إِنَّهُمْ سَاء مَا كَانُواْ يَعْمَلُونَ

The Signs of Allah have they sold for a miserable price, and (many) have they hindered from His way: evil indeed are the deeds they have done.

They have purchased with the revelations of Allah a little gain, so they debar (men) from His way. Lo! evil is that which they are wont to do.

Tafsir Ibn Kathir
Allah admonishes the idolators and encourages the believers to fight against them because,
اشْتَرَوْاْ بِآيَاتِ اللّهِ ثَمَنًا قَلِيلاً ...
They have purchased with the Ayat of Allah a little gain,
idolators exchanged following the Ayat of Allah with the lower affairs of life that they indulged in,
... فَصَدُّواْ عَن سَبِيلِهِ ...
and they hindered men from His way,
trying to prevent the believers from following the truth,
... إِنَّهُمْ سَاء مَا كَانُواْ يَعْمَلُونَ ﴿٩﴾
لاَ يَرْقُبُونَ فِي مُؤْمِنٍ إِلاًّ وَلاَ ذِمَّةً ...
evil indeed is that which they used to do, With regard to a believer, they respect not the ties, either of kinship or of covenant!
تفسير ابن كثير
يقول تعالى ذما للمشركين وحثا للمؤمنين على قتالهم " اشتروا بآيات الله ثمنا قليلا " يعني أنهم اعتاضوا عن اتباع آيات الله بما التهوا به من أمور الدنيا الخسيسة " فصدوا عن سبيله " أي منعوا المؤمنين من اتباع الحق .
تفسير الجلالين
"اشتروا بآيات الله" القرآن "ثمنا قليلا" من الدنيا أي تركوا اتباعها للشهوات والهوى "فصدوا عن سبيله" دينه "إنهم ساء" بئس "ما كانوا يعملونـ" ـه عملهم هذا
تفسير القرطبي
يعني المشركين في نقضهم العهود بأكلة أطعمهم إياها أبو سفيان , قاله مجاهد . وقيل : إنهم استبدلوا بالقرآن متاع الدنيا .
إعراب — grammatical analysis
«اشْتَرَوْا بِآياتِ» فعل ماض تعلق به الجار والمجرور والواو فاعل.
«اللَّهِ» لفظ الجلالة مضاف إليه.
«ثَمَناً» مفعول به.
«قَلِيلًا» صفة. والجملة مستأنفة.
«فَصَدُّوا عَنْ سَبِيلِهِ» الجملة معطوفة.
«إِنَّهُمْ» إن والهاء اسمها.
«ساءَ» فعل ماض واسم الموصول.
«ما» فاعله ومفعوله محذوف أي ساءهم .. وجملة ساء في محل رفع خبر إن. ويمكن إعراب ساء فعل ماض جامد مثل بئس وفاعله محذوف يفسره الفعل المذكور بعده. و«ما» نكرة موصوفة مبنية على السكون.
«كانُوا» كان واسمها وجملة «يَعْمَلُونَ» خبرها. وجملة كانوا صلة الموصول على إعراب ما اسم موصول. وجملة إنهم ساء .. مستأنفة.
