قُلْ يَا أَهْلَ الْكِتَابِ لَسْتُمْ عَلَى شَيْءٍ حَتَّىَ تُقِيمُواْ التَّوْرَاةَ وَالإِنجِيلَ وَمَا أُنزِلَ إِلَيْكُم مِّن رَّبِّكُمْ وَلَيَزِيدَنَّ كَثِيراً مِّنْهُم مَّا أُنزِلَ إِلَيْكَ مِن رَّبِّكَ طُغْيَاناً وَكُفْراً فَلاَ تَأْسَ عَلَى الْقَوْمِ الْكَافِرِينَ
Qul ya ahla alkitabi lastum AAala shayin hatta tuqeemoo alttawrata waalinjeela wama onzila ilaykum min rabbikum walayazeedanna katheeran minhum ma onzila ilayka min rabbika tughyanan wakufran fala tasa AAala alqawmi alkafireena
Yusuf Ali
Say: "O People of the Book! ye have no ground to stand upon unless ye stand fast by the Law, the Gospel, and all the revelation that has come to you from your Lord." It is the revelation that cometh to thee from thy Lord, that increaseth in most of them their obstinate rebellion and blasphemy. But sorrow thou not over (these) people without Faith.

Say O People of the Scripture! Ye have naught (of guidance) till ye observe the Torah and the Gospel and that which was revealed unto you from your Lord. That which is revealed unto thee (Muhammad) from thy Lord is certain to increase the contumacy and disbelief of many of them. But grieve not for the disbelieving folk.

Say: O followers of the Book! you follow no good till you keep up the Taurat and the Injeel and that which is revealed to you from your Lord; and surely that which has been revealed to you from your Lord shall make many of them increase in inordinacy and unbelief; grieve not therefore for the unbelieving people.

Tafsir Ibn Kathir
There is no Salvation Except through Faith in the Qur'an
Allah says:
قُلْ ...
say:
Allah says: O Muhammad, say,
... يَا أَهْلَ الْكِتَابِ لَسْتُمْ عَلَى شَيْءٍ ...
O People of the Scripture! You have nothing...,
meaning no real religion,
... حَتَّىَ تُقِيمُواْ التَّوْرَاةَ وَالإِنجِيلَ وَمَا أُنزِلَ إِلَيْكُم مِّن رَّبِّكُمْ ...
...till you act according to the Tawrah, the Injil, and what has (now) been sent down to you from your Lord (the Qur'an).''
until you adhere to and implement the Tawrah and the Injil. That is, until you believe in all the Books that you have that Allah revealed to the Prophets. These Books command following Muhammad and believing in his prophecy, all the while adhering to his Law.
Allah's statement,
... وَلَيَزِيدَنَّ كَثِيرًا مِّنْهُم مَّا أُنزِلَ إِلَيْكَ مِن رَّبِّكَ طُغْيَانًا وَكُفْرًا ...
Verily, the revelation that has come to you from your Lord makes many of them increase in rebellion and disbelief.
... فَلاَ تَأْسَ عَلَى الْقَوْمِ الْكَافِرِينَ ﴿٦٨﴾
So do not grieve for the people who disbelieve,
Do not be sad or taken aback by their disbelief.
Allah said next,
تفسير ابن كثير
يقول تعالى قل يا محمد " يا أهل الكتاب لستم على شيء " أي من الدين حتى تقيموا التوراة والإنجيل أي حتى تؤمنوا بجميع ما بأيديكم من الكتب المنزلة من الله على الأنبياء وتعملوا بما فيها ومما فيها الإيمان بمحمد والأمر باتباعه - صلى الله عليه وسلم - والإيمان بمبعثه والاقتداء بشريعته ولهذا قال ليث بن أبي سليم عن مجاهد في قوله وما أنزل إليكم من ربكم يعني القرآن العظيم وقوله " ليزيدن كثيرا منهم ما أنزل إليك من ربك طغيانا وكفرا" تقدم تفسيره " فلا تأس على القوم الكافرين" أي فلا تحزن عليهم ولا يهيبنك ذلك منهم.
تفسير الجلالين
"قل يا أهل الكتاب لستم على شيء" من الدين معتد به "حتى تقيموا التوراة والإنجيل وما أنزل إليكم من ربكم" بأن تعملوا بما فيه ومنه الإيمان بي "وليزيدن كثيرا منهم ما أنزل إليك من ربك" من القرآن "طغيانا وكفرا" لكفرهم به "فلا تأس" تحزن "على القوم الكافرين" إن لم يؤمنوا بك أي لا تهتم بهم
تفسير القرطبي
قال ابن عباس : جاء جماعة من اليهود إلى النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم فقالوا : ألست تقر أن التوراة حق من عند الله ؟ قال : ( بلى ) . فقالوا : فإنا نؤمن بها ولا نؤمن بما عداها ; فنزلت الآية ; أي لستم على شيء من الدين حتى تعلموا بما في الكتابين من الإيمان بمحمد عليه السلام , والعمل بما يوجبه ذلك منهما ; وقال أبو علي : ويجوز أن يكون ذلك قبل النسخ لهما .
