ذَلِكَ بِأَنَّ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا اتَّبَعُوا الْبَاطِلَ وَأَنَّ الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا اتَّبَعُوا الْحَقَّ مِن رَّبِّهِمْ كَذَلِكَ يَضْرِبُ اللَّهُ لِلنَّاسِ أَمْثَالَهُمْ
Thalika bianna allatheena kafaroo ittabaAAoo albatila waanna allatheena amanoo ittabaAAoo alhaqqa min rabbihim kathalika yadribu Allahu lilnnasi amthalahum

This because those who reject Allah follow vanities, while those who believe follow the Truth from their Lord: Thus does Allah set forth for men their lessons by similitudes.

Tafsir Ibn Kathir
Then Allah says,
ذَلِكَ بِأَنَّ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا اتَّبَعُوا الْبَاطِلَ ...
That is because those who disbelieve follow falsehood,
meaning, `We only invalidate the deeds of the disbelievers and overlook the sins of the righteous, and amend their affairs, because those who disbelieve follow false- hood.' Meaning, they choose falsehood over the truth.
... وَأَنَّ الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا اتَّبَعُوا الْحَقَّ مِن رَّبِّهِمْ كَذَلِكَ يَضْرِبُ اللَّهُ لِلنَّاسِ أَمْثَالَهُمْ ﴿٣﴾
while those who believe follow the truth from their Lord. Thus does Allah set forth for the people their parables.
Thus He makes the consequence of their actions clear to them, and He shows them where they will end in their next life -- and Allah knows best.
تفسير ابن كثير
" ذلك بأن الذين كفروا اتبعوا الباطل " أي إنما أبطلنا أعمال الكفار وتجاوزنا عن سيئات الأبرار وأصلحنا شؤونهم لأن الذين كفروا اتبعوا الباطل أي اختاروا الباطل على الحق " وأن الذين آمنوا اتبعوا الحق من ربهم كذلك يضرب الله للناس أمثالهم " أي يبين لهم مآل أعمالهم وما يصيرون إليه في معادهم والله سبحانه وتعالى أعلم .
تفسير الجلالين
"ذلك" أي إضلال الأعمال وتكفير السيئات "بأن" بسبب أن "الذين كفروا اتبعوا الباطل" الشيطان "وأن الذين آمنوا اتبعوا الحق" القرآن "من ربهم كذلك" أي مثل ذلك البيان "يضرب الله للناس أمثالهم" يبين أحوالهم أي فالكافر يحبط عمله والمؤمن يغفر له
تفسير القرطبي
" ذلك " في موضع رفع , أي الأمر ذلك , أو ذلك الإضلال والهدى المتقدم ذكرهما سببه هذا . فالكافر اتبع الباطل , والمؤمن اتبع الحق . والباطل : الشرك . والحق : التوحيد والإيمان .
