قَالُوا أَرْجِهِ وَأَخَاهُ وَابْعَثْ فِي الْمَدَائِنِ حَاشِرِينَ
Qaloo arjih waakhahu waibAAath fee almadaini hashireena

They said: "Keep him and his brother in suspense (for a while), and dispatch to the Cities heralds to collect-

Tafsir Ibn Kathir
قَالُوا أَرْجِهِ وَأَخَاهُ وَابْعَثْ فِي الْمَدَائِنِ حَاشِرِينَ ﴿٣٦﴾
يَأْتُوكَ بِكُلِّ سَحَّارٍ عَلِيمٍ ﴿٣٧﴾
They said: "Put him off and his brother, and send callers to the cities; to bring up to you every well-versed sorcerer.''
meaning, `delay him and his brother until you gather together all the sorcerers from every city and region of your kingdom so that they may confront him and produce something like he produces, then you will defeat him and have the victory.'
So Fir`awn did as they suggested, which is what Allah decreed would happen to them, so that all the people would gather in one place and the signs and proof of Allah would be made manifest before them all in one day.
تفسير ابن كثير
" قالوا أرجه وأخاه وابعث في المدائن حاشرين يأتوك بكل سحار عليم " أي أخره وأخاه حتى تجمع له من مدائن مملكتك وأقاليم دولتك .
تفسير الجلالين
"قالوا أرجه وأخاه" أخر أمرهما "وابعث في المدائن حاشرين" جامعين

«قالُوا» الجملة مستأنفة «أَرْجِهْ» أمر مبني على السكون والهاء مفعول به والفاعل مستتر «وَأَخاهُ» الواو واو المعية وأخاه مفعول معه والهاء مضاف إليه «وَابْعَثْ» أمر فاعله مستتر والجملة معطوفة «فِي الْمَدائِنِ» متعلقان بابعث «حاشِرِينَ» مفعول به منصوب بالياء لأنه جمع مذكر سالم
