ثُمَّ صَدَقْنَاهُمُ الْوَعْدَ فَأَنجَيْنَاهُمْ وَمَن نَّشَاء وَأَهْلَكْنَا الْمُسْرِفِينَ
Thumma sadaqnahumu alwaAAda faanjaynahum waman nashao waahlakna almusrifeena

In the end We fulfilled to them Our Promise, and We saved them and those whom We pleased, but We destroyed those who transgressed beyond bounds. Recitation 0:00

ENTafsir Ibn Kathir
ثُمَّ صَدَقْنَاهُمُ الْوَعْدَ ...
Then We fulfilled to them the promise.
the promise that their Lord made to destroy the evildoers. Allah fulfilled His promise and did that.
He says:
... فَأَنجَيْنَاهُمْ وَمَن نَّشَاء ...
So We saved them and those whom We willed,
meaning, their followers among the believers,
... وَأَهْلَكْنَا الْمُسْرِفِينَ ﴿٩﴾
but We destroyed Al-Musrifin.
meaning, those who disbelieved the Message brought by the Messengers.
ARتفسير ابن كثير
وقوله " ثم صدقناهم الوعد " أي الذي وعدهم ربهم ليهلكن الظالمين صدقهم الله وعده وفعل ذلك ولهذا قال " فأنجيناهم ومن نشاء" أي أتباعهم من المؤمنين " وأهلكنا المسرفين" أي المكذبين بما جاءت به الرسل .
