إِلاَّ رَحْمَةً مِّن رَّبِّكَ إِنَّ فَضْلَهُ كَانَ عَلَيْكَ كَبِيراً
Illa rahmatan min rabbika inna fadlahu kana AAalayka kabeeran

Except for Mercy from thy Lord: for his bounty is to thee (indeed) great.

(It is naught) save mercy from thy Lord. Lo! His kindness unto thee was ever great.

Tafsir Ibn Kathir
If Allah willed, He could take away the Qur'an
Allah says:
وَلَئِن شِئْنَا لَنَذْهَبَنَّ بِالَّذِي أَوْحَيْنَا إِلَيْكَ ثُمَّ لاَ تَجِدُ لَكَ بِهِ عَلَيْنَا وَكِيلاً ﴿٨٦﴾
إِلاَّ رَحْمَةً مِّن رَّبِّكَ إِنَّ فَضْلَهُ كَانَ عَلَيْكَ كَبِيرًا ﴿٨٧﴾
And if We willed, We could surely take away that which We have revealed to you. Then you would find no protector for you against Us in that respect.
Except as a mercy from your Lord. Verily, His grace unto you is ever great.
Allah mentions the blessing and great bounty that He has bestowed upon His servant and Messenger Muhammad by revealing to Him the Noble Qur'an to which falsehood cannot come, from before it or behind it, (it is) sent down by the All-Wise, Worthy of all praise.
Ibn Mas`ud said,
"A red wind will come to the people, meaning at the end of time, from the direction of Syria, and there will be nothing left in a man's Mushaf (copy of the Qur'an) or in his heart, not even one Ayah.''
Then Ibn Mas`ud recited:
وَلَئِن شِئْنَا لَنَذْهَبَنَّ بِالَّذِي أَوْحَيْنَا إِلَيْكَ
And if We willed, We could surely take away that which We have revealed to you.
تفسير ابن كثير
يذكر تعالى نعمته وفضله العظيم على عبده ورسوله الكريم صلى الله عليه وسلم فيما أوحاه إليه من القرآن المجيد الذي لا يأتيه الباطل من بين يديه ولا من خلفه تنزيل من حكيم حميد .
تفسير الجلالين
"إلا" لكن أبقيناه "رحمة من ربك إن فضله كان عليك كبيرا" عظيما حيث أنزله عليك وأعطاك المقام المحمود وغير ذلك من الفضائل
تفسير القرطبي
يعني لكن لا نشاء ذلك رحمة من ربك ; فهو استثناء ليس من الأول . وقيل : إلا أن يرحمك ربك فلا يذهب به .
إعراب — grammatical analysis
«إِلَّا» أداة حصر.
«رَحْمَةً» مفعول لأجله.
«مِنْ رَبِّكَ» متعلقان برحمة والكاف مضاف إليه.
«إِنَّ فَضْلَهُ» إن واسمها والهاء مضاف إليه.
«كانَ» فعل ماض ناقص واسمها محذوف.
«عَلَيْكَ» متعلقان بكبيرا.
«كَبِيراً» خبر كان والجملة كان في محل رفع خبر إن وجملة إن وما بعدها تعليلية لا محل لها.
